Operation Guide

KeyFunction
Power (⏻)Short press: power on. Long press (3s): power off. The last-used wavelength is saved automatically on power-off. 10-minute auto power-off is enabled by default.
Power (⏻), while powered onShort press: toggle the 10-minute auto power-off function on/off.
LEDShort press: turn LCD backlight on/off (auto-off after 3 minutes of inactivity). Long press: turn the LED illumination light on/off.
WAVEShort press: switch output wavelength between 1550 nm and 1310 nm.
MODEShort press: cycle modulation frequency — 270 Hz → 1000 Hz → 2000 Hz → 0 Hz (CW).
WAVE + MODE (W2S only)Press together to enter User-Defined Output Power mode (display shows "CAL"). Short press WAVE to increase by +0.1 dBm; short press MODE to decrease by −0.1 dBm. Long press to save and exit. Custom range: +4 dBm to −10 dBm. Press the combo again to exit without saving.
LED + WAVE (W2S only)Press together to enter Factory Reset mode (display shows "FAC"). Short press the Power key to confirm and restore factory settings. Press the combo again to cancel and exit.

Note: User-defined output power calibration and factory reset are exclusive features of the W2S model.

Standard Package Includes

  • 1 × Main unit
  • 1 × Product warranty card
  • 1 × Certificate of conformity
  • 1 × User manual
  • 1 × Built-in rechargeable lithium battery
  • 1 × USB charging cable

Charging

The unit uses a standard USB charging port. While powered on, the battery indicator flashes during charging and stops flashing once charging is complete.

Care & Maintenance

  • Never look directly into the laser output port during operation — laser radiation can cause eye injury.
  • Keep the sensor end face clean at all times. Avoid unclean or non-standard adapter connectors, and avoid inserting poorly polished ferrules, as this can damage the sensor face and introduce measurement error.
  • Insert and remove adapter connectors carefully to avoid scratching the port.
  • Always replace the dust cap when the device is not in use, to keep the end face clean and prevent measurement drift from airborne dust.
  • After extended use, residue may build up on the internal sleeve of the optical output port, reducing output power. Clean with an alcohol swab; if this doesn't resolve the issue, contact the manufacturer.
  • For any other malfunction, contact us promptly rather than disassembling the instrument. Devices that have been opened or repaired by unauthorized parties are not eligible for further service support.

FAQ
Q:

What is the W2/W2S optical light source used for?

A:
The W2/W2S optical light source provides stable laser output for fiber optic testing, commonly used with an optical power meter to measure insertion loss. It is suitable for FTTH, telecom maintenance, data center fiber links and field engineering teams.
Q:

What is the difference between W2 and W2S optical light source models?

A:
The W2 and W2S models should be selected according to required output configuration and project testing method. Buyers should confirm whether fixed or adjustable output power is required, such as fixed -7 dBm or adjustable output in the specified range.
Q:

Why are 1310 nm and 1550 nm important for a handheld optical light source?

A:
1310 nm and 1550 nm are standard single-mode fiber testing wavelengths. Testing at these wavelengths helps buyers evaluate fiber link loss under common telecom conditions and makes the W2/W2S light source useful for FTTH and long-distance single-mode networks.
Q:

Can the W2/W2S optical light source test insertion loss alone?

A:
No. A stable optical light source must be used together with a calibrated optical power meter to test insertion loss. The light source provides the signal, while the power meter reads received power and helps calculate link attenuation.
Q:

What should B2B buyers confirm before bulk ordering W2/W2S light sources?

A:
Before bulk purchase, buyers should confirm wavelengths, output power type, connector interface such as SC, FC or ST, modulation mode, battery life, charging method, package accessories and calibration or inspection requirements. These details affect field usability and resale satisfaction.
