Pro-Tips for Successful Installation
- Slide First, Splice Second: Always slide the heat shrink tube onto one side of the fiber cable before stripping, cleaving, and fusing the glass. Once fused, you cannot add the sleeve without breaking the connection.
- Keep Ends Deburred: Ensure the internal steel rod has rounded, deburred edges. Cheap sleeves with sharp metal edges can slice right through the fiber during the shrinking process.
- Use Dedicated Ovens: Avoid open flames or standard hair dryers for fiber work. Always use the integrated heating oven built into your fusion splicing machine. This ensures even, calibrated 360-degree heat distribution without blistering the plastic.
