Product Description

Pocket OTDR with 20 km Infrared Fault Location and 10 mW VFL

This rechargeable pen-style fiber fault locator combines infrared distance-to-fault testing, an on-screen fiber trace, a visible red-light fault locator and an LED work light. It gives FTTH maintenance teams a compact tool for first-line troubleshooting, while helping distributors offer more diagnostic information than a basic red-light pen.

Two Optical Ports for Different Troubleshooting Tasks

  • Infrared fault location: the IVFL port tests at 1550 ±10 nm and displays a fiber waveform, with a stated measurement range of 20 km. Use the trace and distance cursor to investigate events when the cable route is not directly visible.
  • Visible red-light tracing: the separate 10 mW VFL port provides continuous light and 3 Hz flashing for continuity checks and finding accessible breaks or leakage points. The 20 km specification belongs to infrared fault location; it is not a guaranteed visible-red-light reach.
  • Compact waveform display: the 2.0-inch color screen shows the test trace and cursor position. The five-way joystick supports event selection, cursor movement and settings; holding the zoom button with the joystick changes the waveform scale.
  • Field-friendly operation: a built-in LED helps illuminate connector work, and the hanging loop makes the tester easy to carry. The VFL and LED can be activated independently while the main instrument is off.
  • Rechargeable power: a Type-C port charges the built-in lithium battery. The charging indicator stays on during charging and turns off when charging is complete.

Real-Time and Averaging Test Modes

Real-time testing shows changes in the fiber trace while testing, without event markers. Averaging mode displays event markers after the test is complete. These modes support different troubleshooting steps; compare sample traces on the fiber lengths and faults your customers actually encounter before a bulk purchase.

What Distributors Should Verify Before Ordering

  1. Match the test to the customer: confirm fiber type, typical link length, connector end face and whether the customer needs troubleshooting or a specified acceptance-test report. Request the required dynamic range, dead-zone, accuracy and report-export specifications if the project depends on them.
  2. Request a simple remote demonstration: ask for one continuous video showing the actual unit, its settings, a known-length test fiber and the displayed end or fault distance. Then have the supplier demonstrate both trace modes, VFL flashing, LED lighting and Type-C charging.
  3. Check live-fiber conditions: confirm the manual's permitted connection method, operating wavelengths and input-power limits before testing an active link. The listed limits do not imply compatibility with every live PON network.
  4. Approve the supplied configuration: agree the connector interface, accessories, manual language, warranty, service process and sample acceptance criteria before repeat orders.

The compact housing and hanging loop support portable use. The supplied images do not establish an IP waterproof rating. Follow the operating environment specification, and never look into the optical ports or a connected fiber end.

FAQ
Q:

What does the 20 km measurement range mean for this pen-style OTDR?

A:
The stated 20 km range is the instrument’s measurement setting, not a guarantee for every installed link. Confirm fiber loss, event spacing, test wavelength and launch conditions; the listed OTDR test wavelength is 1550±10 nm.
Q:

Can this OTDR test an active live fiber?

A:
Use the IVFL function for live-fiber checks only within its specified input limits; do not connect the OTDR port to an active line unless the manual permits it. The supplied limits list 1270/1310/1577 nm at ≤7 dBm and 1490 nm at ≤0 dBm.
Q:

What should a distributor verify before ordering this fiber fault locator?

A:
Confirm the 20 km OTDR range, 1550 nm test wavelength, VFL/IVFL ports, connector interfaces, package contents and regional power/charging needs. Match the live-fiber limits to the networks your customers maintain.
Q:

What is included in the standard package?

A:
The supplied product specification lists the pen-style optical fault locator, USB data cable, certificate of conformity, user manual and packaging box. Confirm the current packing list and any requested accessories before placing a bulk order.
